Research along with every word in the English language, has multiple meanings and definitions. MSN Encarta defines the word research as an organized study: methodical investigation into a subject in order to discover facts, to establish or revise a theory, or to develop a plan of action based on the facts discovered.”(MSN Encarta, 2007) There is no 100% clear cut explanation as for what research can “uncover” and explain.

I personally feel that the word research can be defined as an action we are active in, in everyday life. Research allows us to understand and appreciate things and events in a deeper realization, not just what we first comprehended… Without research we would still be working with the tools of the cavemen and the idea of diversity and equality for men and women would be unheard of. What I mean is that without the research, we would not have the advances we have today.

People use some form of research on a daily basis. Such examples are using the internet, or books to find more information on a topic, and conducting trials. Gaining information by talking to people you feel would help you further you’re knowledge in a positive way, is an example of research. Conducting research does not always have to be formal; it also can be used in an informal approach to help discover the most unimportant facts.

Research, anyway you use it can help you grow mentally, as well as help produce some of the most impressive results. It has the ability to make people think about things in a new way, the capability of forming new innovations or even helping someone pick the best gift due to ratings on the internet. Anyway we see it and use it research, with or without clear limits is a positive attribute to our society.

AWESOME! AND YOU CITED YOUR WORK!!! Hurrah!

So, what kind of research do you think you’d like to pursue in this class?

I am not completely sure as to what research I want to pursue for this class. Yet, Im hoping that you’ll let us do research based upon what we are interested in (like what you said in class, that you were unsure which one you were choosing yet).. I have a few ideas but I’m waiting to see the guidelines before I really start to choose and begin.

Ok, So I still forgot to tell you what I was planning on doing it on. I was thinking eating disorders tied into the medias obsession..

It was good how you stressed how research has helped us develop socially and mentally.

I like how you made reference to people still living as cavemen and having no advances in society without research. It’s completely true.

  7. Very well written.I like that you began with the actual definition from a dictionary and followed with your own definition.

Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I like to start my papers with something people can easily identify with or relate to. Then explain what it really is and how I see it.
